Gapminder: Comprehending World Development Statistics

Posted by nuarchive on June 28, 2009

Gapminder.org is a Swedish non-profit organization whose goal is to increase use and understanding of international statistics. Our understanding of where the world is in terms of development is incomplete without data and our comprehension of the data available depends on how it is presented. Gapminder is probably unequaled in their ability to make the mountains of data meaningful.

Here’s a Gapminder presentation at Google (69 minutes) which makes compelling watching — good content presented well. Note that the presentation was made over three years ago in March of 2006.

(I have tried embedding the video here but WordPress simply rejects that bit of code.)
